How do I take Alka-Seltzer Original?

Alka-Seltzer Original is an effervescent medication, which means it needs to be dissolved in water. Drop two tablets into half a glass (100ml) of water, wait for them to dissolve completely, and drink. This medication is not recommended for children under the age of 16.

How often can I use Alka-Seltzer Original?

The recommended adult dose of Alka-Seltzer Original is 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed. If that isn’t enough, your doctor may recommend a higher dosage — though you mustn’t exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours.

Alka-Seltzer Original was designed around aspirin.

The other ingredients are as follows:

Povidone, dimeticone, calcium silicate, docusate sodium, sodium benzoate (E211), sodium saccharin, natural and artificial lemon flavour, and natural and artificial lime flavour.

Does Alka-Seltzer Original produce any side effects?

Alka-Seltzer Original is very safe, which is why it’s used so widely for the relief of mild pain and indigestion, but every medication can occasionally produce side effects. In this case, potential side effects include the following:

• Excess stomach acid secretion
• Stomach irritation
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Heartburn
• Stomach cramps
